Get to know our members – Tykoflex

In this series we introduce our new members, where they talk about their activities and why they are members of SME-D. Now it's the turn of Tykoflex. That's why we had a chat with CEO Richard Petterson Wigh.

Tykoflex is a key player in secure critical communications infrastructure. We develop and manufacture high-quality stainless steel fiber enclosures and submarine cable joints that operate in the most challenging environments, from air and land to offshore installations down to 5000 meters deep. With design, prototyping and production combined, we can quickly develop robust and sustainable solutions for our customers. We also train and certify fiber technicians to perform offshore installations and repairs, which increases operational reliability and reduces the time to restore critical infrastructure.

Who do you work with?

Our enclosures and submarine cable joints are found in all critical parts of the Nordic fiber infrastructure, in both military and civilian networks. They are used in communication backbones, power grids, along roads and railways, in offshore installations at sea and all the way out into urban networks. We also enable the connection of various types of sensors in existing infrastructure, where our collaboration with Kongsberg is a clear example of how robust fiber technology can be combined with advanced surveillance.

Repairability is crucial for resilient communication networks, and here our products play a central role both on land and at sea.
From a total defense perspective, robust communication and redundancy are crucial, and our solutions address the increased demands for resilience in the Baltic Sea region.

How do you work, if at all, with conscripts, wartime deployments and veterans?

Tykoflex does not work operationally with conscripts or war deployments, but we actively contribute to Swedish total defense by developing robust technology that strengthens society's resilience. We value veterans' experiences and see their perspectives as important in understanding and meeting the demands for sustainable and secure communications infrastructure.

What professional roles are available at your company?

Tykoflex is an innovative company where the entire chain is under one roof, from design and prototyping to manufacturing, testing and sales. This gives us an unusually broad skills base and great versatility in our professional roles.
Our staff includes designers, CNC technicians, welders, assemblers, quality and test engineers, project managers, and employees in HR, finance, and sales.

Why are you a member of SME-D and what do you want to get out of membership?

Our enclosures are a central part of the communication networks both on land and at sea and are therefore an important part of the infrastructure that must function from a total defense perspective. At the same time, we see a great opportunity to use the same infrastructure to quickly scale up the connection of different types of sensors for both civilian and military needs. This dual-use area is an important future opportunity, where through SME-D we can build networks, share expertise and contribute with a platform that opens up for innovation in sensor integration and advanced surveillance.
