We have now submitted our consultation response to the Defence Export Initiative (SOU 2026:16), together with TechSverige.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is fundamentally an important and welcome initiative. The ambition to create a more comprehensive, strategic and effective Swedish defence export promotion is absolutely timely \u2013 not least in a security policy situation where the need for faster deliveries, a strengthened industrial base and international collaboration is increasing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the same time, it becomes clear in our review that the system, in its current design, risks missing parts that are absolutely crucial for future defense capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In practice, two central perspectives are missing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2022 SME<\/strong> \u2013 small and medium-sized companies where a large part of both innovation and delivery capacity is located, often as specialized nodes in the value chains Today's model is still largely based on a more traditional industrial perspective \u2013 focusing on large platform systems, established exporters and significant scale deals. This has historically been a strength, but increasingly reflects how today's and tomorrow's defense systems are developed, integrated and scaled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It is not enough to optimize for yesterday's business models when technological changes are rapid and new players are carrying an increasingly greater share of the innovative power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Against this background, we highlight three needs in particular:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2022 A structured reception of SMEs and tech companies into the system<\/strong> \u2022 A track for strategically important technologies<\/strong> \u2022 Clear target groups where SMEs and tech are directly included<\/strong> Fundamentally, this is about something bigger than exports themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It's about who is given the opportunity to contribute to and shape Sweden's future defense capabilities<\/strong> \u2013 and thus also our ability to actually deliver at the pace and with the breadth that is now required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n To succeed, a system is needed that reflects the entire ecosystem: from large system integrators to niche tech companies and fast-paced startups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We look forward to continuing the dialogue on how this can develop further.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" We have now submitted our response to the consultation on the Defence Export Initiative (SOU 2026:16), together with TechSverige. \u2022 Digital tech \/ IT<\/strong> \u2013 software, AI, cyber, data and other dual-use technologies that increasingly form the very core of modern defense systems<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today, there is a large lack of clear inputs, processes and support structures that enable smaller companies to understand, navigate and become part of export promotion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Export promotion needs to be able to support technologies that are strategically critical to a greater extent \u2013 even when they are not yet linked to large, ready-made deals. It is about building a position and presence in the technology areas of the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
SMEs and digital companies need to be explicitly addressed in both assignments, efforts and follow-up \u2013 not only indirectly through larger players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
